Ohr Chayim (“light of our lives”) Religious School provides a whole-family Shabbat learning experience open to children in grades K through 12. Join us to explore Jewish identity, values, and ritual with a welcoming community of LGBTQIA+ and ally families! Our clergy and educators are dedicated to creating an inclusive learning environment accessible to everyone, especially students with disabilities and neurodiverse learners. At BCC, we believe that every person is created b’tzelem elohim, in God’s image, and that all families are sacred. Whether you are an interfaith, “non-traditional,” or multiracial family, we welcome you to explore your Jewish heritage with us.
We believe in the value of Pikuach Nefesh / Preserving the Soul, so to protect our youngest and most vulnerable community members, we will be learning outside and masked in the BCC parking lot for our Shabbat sessions (approximately twice a month). Weekly one-on-one Zoom Hebrew lessons for grades 4+ are available.
Most of our in-person sessions meet from 10 to 11:30 am on Shabbat (Saturday) with the occasional Havdalah session later in the day. Our program offers opportunities for the whole family to experience Shabbat learning together. Youth learns with our teachers, while caregivers study Jewish texts and music with the clergy in an intimate and adaptive learning environment.
