Some information about what is going on in Los Angeles with regards to Monkeypox and what you need to know, curated from LA public health, the CDC, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, and the WHO.
.
From LA Public Health: "Monkeypox, a disease caused by infection with monkeypox virus, is a rare disease and does not naturally occur naturally in the US. Monkeypox infections in the US are usually associated with travel to West or Central Africa or contact with imported infected animals. However, as mentioned above, cases of monkeypox have recently been identified in some countries where the virus is not typically found, including in the US, and appear to have spread through human-to-human contact. Monkeypox can spread when a person has close contact with a person infected with monkeypox virus or when a person comes in contact with materials (e.g., bedding, towels) that are contaminated with the virus. The monkeypox virus can also spread from animals to people."
.
From the CDC, How it spreads: "close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact (including sexual contact)", "Touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox.
Contact with respiratory secretions", "A pregnant person can spread the virus to their fetus through the placenta."
.
From the CDC, Symptoms: "Fever
Headache
Muscle aches and backache
Swollen lymph nodes
Chills
Exhaustion
Respiratory symptoms (e.g. sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough)
A rash that may be located on or near the genitals (penis, testicles, labia, and vagina) or anus (butthole) but could also be on other areas like the hands, feet, chest, face, or mouth.
The rash will go through several stages, including scabs, before healing.
The rash can look like pimples or blisters and may be painful or itchy."

Will you be joining us for the Installation of Rabbi Jillian R. Cameron? We can't wait to see you there and for all of us to join together in community!
.
In her invitation, Rabbi Jillian wrote the following:
"When I began my time at BCC two years ago, in July 2020, questions about when we might schedule my installation as BCC’s rabbi arose almost immediately. While I was excited to imagine this special ritual moment for us all, it became clear to me that this moment of welcome, of change, of looking toward the future should happen when we could all be together at BCC in person. So we waited and waited and finally, I am so honored and truly excited to invite all of our BCC family to my installation as your rabbi."
