Join us this Friday for a special Tu B'Av Shabbat Evening Service!
.
Meet our guest speaker, Mirit Sulema, and learn about her work with Dror Israel - an organization dedicated to a just and equal Israel!
.
About Mirit: "Mirit Sulema, 35 years old, has been the coordinator of the Dror Israel urban educators’ kibbutz in Akko for the past four years. Over the eight years that she has lived in Akko since completing her military service, Mirit has spearheaded and participated in a range of educational projects in the city. For four years, she worked as a counselor at a special youth center that offers a “second home” for at-risk adolescents, and later spent two years as the center’s manager. She also established and led the first ever group of Arab youth to attend the national NOAL youth movement leadership training course from Akko. This led to the establishment of the Akko Shared Society center in 2015. The Shared Society Center runs joint activities for some 200 Jewish and Arab youth every year. In recent years, Mirit has been at the forefront of the campaign to purchase a new building and home for the Akko Educators’ Kibbutz, to house 60 educators as well as educational, cultural and social activities for hundreds of Akko locals. In the past two years, Mirit was working on Dror Israel’s high school for youth at risk in Haifa, where she taught business skill and entrepreneurship to 10-11 grade kids, and established a new social-business with the teens where they run and manage everything. A business that provides content writing and new media services to small businesses in Haifa. Mirit also teaches sexual-positive lessons to teenagers and gives talks about her journey as a lesbian in the periphery of Israel. Through Dror Israel’s educational initiative for sex education in schools in Israel. Mirit lives with her partner, Shiri, in Akko and they expect their first born in January."
.
Register to join us on Zoom at our link in bio! Or attend in-person at BCC (mask, vaccination proof + 1 booster required)!

Some information about what is going on in Los Angeles with regards to Monkeypox and what you need to know, curated from LA public health, the CDC, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, and the WHO.
.
From LA Public Health: "Monkeypox, a disease caused by infection with monkeypox virus, is a rare disease and does not naturally occur naturally in the US. Monkeypox infections in the US are usually associated with travel to West or Central Africa or contact with imported infected animals. However, as mentioned above, cases of monkeypox have recently been identified in some countries where the virus is not typically found, including in the US, and appear to have spread through human-to-human contact. Monkeypox can spread when a person has close contact with a person infected with monkeypox virus or when a person comes in contact with materials (e.g., bedding, towels) that are contaminated with the virus. The monkeypox virus can also spread from animals to people."
.
From the CDC, How it spreads: "close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact (including sexual contact)", "Touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox.
Contact with respiratory secretions", "A pregnant person can spread the virus to their fetus through the placenta."
.
From the CDC, Symptoms: "Fever
Headache
Muscle aches and backache
Swollen lymph nodes
Chills
Exhaustion
Respiratory symptoms (e.g. sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough)
A rash that may be located on or near the genitals (penis, testicles, labia, and vagina) or anus (butthole) but could also be on other areas like the hands, feet, chest, face, or mouth.
The rash will go through several stages, including scabs, before healing.
The rash can look like pimples or blisters and may be painful or itchy."

The monkeypox virus can also spread from animals to people." . From the CDC, How it spreads: "close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact (including sexual contact)", "Touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox. Contact with respiratory secretions", "A pregnant person can spread the virus to their fetus through the placenta." . From the CDC, Symptoms: "Fever Headache Muscle aches and backache Swollen lymph nodes Chills Exhaustion Respiratory symptoms (e.g. sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough) A rash that may be located on or near the genitals (penis, testicles, labia, and vagina) or anus (butthole) but could also be on other areas like the hands, feet, chest, face, or mouth.
